About the New Forest Act
The New Forest Act is a citizen-developed legislative framework for forestry in British Columbia. It is a proposal and public resource, not a membership organization or government program.
Development of the proposal
The framework was developed through research, writing, forestry expertise, public presentations, and discussion with people across British Columbia. The March 2026 proposal acknowledges Jennifer Houghton, Herb Hammond, Dave Weaver, and Ray Hanson for researching, writing, and contributing to the work.
History
The New Forest Act was originally developed through the Boundary Forest Watershed Stewardship Society between 2024 and 2026. Following the Society’s dissolution, Jennifer Houghton, principal author of the proposal, became the independent custodian of the New Forest Act proposal and supporting materials.
